Game of the Day

Thursday, September 10

Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers (-6, 35)

Matchup stats and trends

Line movement

The first lines for Week 1 of the NFL regular season were posted way back in April at some sportsbooks with Pittsburgh initially installed as a 5-point favorite in this game. The line dropped to -4.5 during the summer, but came back up to -5 during the preseason. This week the money has been coming in on Pittsburgh with the line standing at -6.

The total was initially 35.5 in April and dropped to 35 in June. That’s the same number most sportsbooks are using now, although the money appears to be coming in on the under. It’s touched 34.5 in some spots.

Pittsburgh opened as a -230 favorite on the moneyline and has now risen to -270. The Titans have gone from +190 to +230 at most sportsbooks. This current moneyline gives Pittsburgh a 72 percent chance of winning the game straight up.

Roethlisberger says no to deal

The woman who accuses Ben Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her at Vegas hotel in the summer of 2008 said on Wednesday she would drop her civil lawsuit against Roethlisberger pending a concession from the Steelers quarterback.

The accuser says she wants Roethlisberger to admit the assault happened, issue an apology in a letter and donate $100,000 to an abused women’s nonprofit charity in Reno, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Roethlisberger’s lawyers rejected the deal and called the proposal “bizarre” and claimed it “insults women who have legitimately suffered from sexual misconduct.”

Big Ben immediately denied the accusation and while the case is still open, Roethlisberger’s case seems to be in a good position.

Former coworkers of the accuser stated in court documents that the woman bragged about having sex with Roethlisberger and fantasized about having his baby.

Long-awaited rematch

The last time the Titans and Steelers met on the field, Tennessee players were disgracing Pittsburgh terrible towels by stomping and pretending to blow their nose with it.

The Titans were celebrating a 31-14 victory that helped them secure the best record in the AFC last season (13-3). A playoff rematch against the Yellow and Black never materialized because the Ravens ousted the top seed from the postseason.

“Being we beat the Super Bowl champions and never had a chance to compete and go play for the Super Bowl left a bad taste in our mouth,” Tennessee safety Chris Hope told the Associated Press.

The Steelers are downplaying the towel stomping of a year ago, but you get the impression from what the players are saying that both sides have something to prove on Thursday.

Return issues

The Titans signed Mark Jones in the offseason to be the team’s lead kick returner. But after an injury-riddled preseason, Tennessee cut ties with the speedster.

It’s unclear who coach Jeff Fisher will turn to for the job. There’s been talk of DB Ryan Mouton or rookie tailback Javon Ringer handling returns, but neither has much experience.

Injuries

Both teams enter tonight’s game healthy with no major injuries. Tennessee only has two players on the injury report with both TE Jared Cook (ankle) and WR Nate Washington (hamstring) being listed as questionable.

Pittsburgh LB Lawrence Timmons (ankle) is doubtful, while TE Sean McHugh and OG Darnell Stapleton are both on the injured reserve list with knee injuries.

Super Bowl Champs

A popular betting system is to fade the defending Super Bowl champion in September. This method has shown some success in past years, but it does not work well in Week 1. The defending Super Bowl champion is a perfect 8-0 straight and 7-0-1 against the spread the past eight years in its opening game.

Weather

Weather is often an issue in Pittsburgh, but normally not in September. The forecast is calling for a 30 percent chance of showers on Thursday night with winds around nine mph. The temperature will be 60 degrees.

Hot Lines: Today's best MLB bets

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals (+142, 9.5)

The Royals are looking for a little bit of September magic after a crazy season of ups and downs. After starting the month with just one win in their first five games, the Royals have taken back-to-back contests heading into Wednesday Game 2 against Detroit.

"I don't think we've quit at all," Royals manager Trey Hillman told the media after Tuesday’s win over the Tigers. "I still see effort, I still see energy. Guys get depressed a little bit when you've lost as many games as we've lost, but for me -- without overstating it -- it takes a heck of lot of character to continue to come back against a first-place club."

Last season, Kansas City caught fire down the stretch and finished September with an 18-8 record. The team’s pitching was the catalyst to that strong run down the home stretch. In recent games, it’s been the Royals bats that are leading the charge.

They put six runs on the board in a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels Monday before driving in seven runs in a 7-5 win over Detroit Tuesday. Those efforts improved Kansas City’s batting average to .283 this month and was the first time the club has won consecutive games since July 28.

Pick: Kansas City +142

Florida Marlins at New York Mets (+101, 9.5)

Don’t look now but the Marlins are making a run at the Wild Card – not to mention the National League East title

Florida has won five of its last six games heading into Wednesday’s meeting with the New York Mets and sits just 5.5 games back of the NL Wild Card and six games out of the division lead.

"We know we have to win every day, but we don't try to put a lot of pressure on us," shortstop Hanley Ramirez told reporters. "We stay in the race. That's all it's about."

Ramirez let his bat do the talking with a 2-run home run to help down the Mets 4-2 Tuesday. Ramirez is hitting .412 BA with three home runs and nine RBIs in September, despite a nagging hamstring injury.

The Marlins, as a team, have been bashing the cover off the ball during this streak, hitting a major-league best .313 while averaging almost 6.5 runs per game this month.

Pick: Florida -102

Streaking and Slumping Pitchers

Streaking

Scott Baker (13-7, 4.34 ERA), Minnesota Twins

The righthander's career-best season just keeps getting better. Having increased his win total for the fourth straight season, Baker is pitching as well as he has all year.

The Twins have won the last five starts made by Baker, who is 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP in that span. He has faced Texas and Cleveland twice each during his hot streak.

Baker has not lost in his last 11 starts.

"You want to see him out there. He's been our hottest pitcher," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told the team's web site.

Kip Wells (1-3, 4.85), Cincinnati Reds

Pressed into the rotation due to injuries, the righthander has made the most of his opportunities.

The Reds have won all three starts made by Wells, who has two no-decisions but has posted a 2.65 ERA while getting stronger with each outing.

Wells allowed three runs and seven hits in his first start, two runs and two hits in his next start and tossed six scoreless innings in his last outing, giving up just one hit.

Wells has walked 11 in 17 innings as a starter and needs to develop more command.

Returning

Lenny DiNardo (NR), Kansas City Royals

The journeyman lefthander will be making his first major league appearance since Aug. 9, 2008, when he was with Oakland. He debuted in 2004 and spent three seasons with Boston, primarily as a reliever.

DiNardo was signed as a minor league free agent and pitched for Italy in the World Baseball Classic before pitching five scoreless innings in spring training.

He was sent to the minors and was 10-5 with a 3.32 ERA and two saves in 29 games at Triple-A Omaha, including 23 starts.

Slumping

Brett Cecil (6-4, 5.46), Toronto Blue Jays

As the season winds down, the rookie lefthander appears to be fading.

Cecil is 1-3 in his last four starts, but that hardly tells the whole story. He has not lasted more than five innings in any of those outings and has been hit very hard.

In 17 innings, Cecil has allowed 28 hits, including seven homers. Throw in nine walks and he has a 2.18 WHIP to go with a 10.06 ERA.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Total
9½ un-115 at 5DIMES > 20h.
On Thursday night the Bonus Play is on the under in the Phillies at Washington game. Rotation numbers 903/4 at 7:05 eastern. The Phillies have gone under in 17 of 20 games as a road favorite of minus 175 or more. In September they have gone under in 7 of their 8 games. Philly has struggled at the plate averaging just 2.4 runs on .217 hitting over the past seven games. Washington has not fared much better averaging just 3 runs per game on .245 hitting in that same time span.
Tonight the pitching match up is J.Blanton for Philly and L.Hernandez for the Nationals. Blanton has pitched real well in the second half after struggling early in the year. He should have no problems tonight against a sub par Washington team. Hernandez pitched most of the season with the Mets. In his last two road starts he has pitched very well. While he has had struggles this year,he is known for his big efforts when facing top tier teams.
I look for a well pitched low scoring game here tonight. In late phone action I have a double power angle going in the college football game and a solid opening week system play in the NFL. Jump on and grab two high end technical plays tonight. For the Bonus Play go under in the Philly at Washington game.

Hello there guys!
Recieved a email from betonepicks dot com on there documented picks database there going to monitor some of the group from ats edge this football season. They want to show players the real records of these handicappers. The reason for there email was asking if anyone could help them with this weeks past picks so they can update the database. They also mention in there email if you wanted a handicapper documented email (jim) and let them know to add him. Sounds like there going to have alot of handicappers monitored by them with the real true records. I have done some dealings with the betonepicks group and there records are legit. So if someone can help them with few records this week would be nice for them and us. Will be nice going there daily and seeing the documented records that we need to see. Heres a link to there past picks database

I just checked out their website!!! those guys are part of that website... now if their info on their pics are legit it might be worth it to check them out! at least for 1 week (anyone wanna do that?) and then we can go from there... as far as I am concerned why should we trust these guys over any other capper... when it comes to reporting and keeping track of not only their own picks but the picks of other cappers?!?! If anyone needs to keep track of cappers picks they need to be independent!!! and who is to say they are not lying about other cappers and their picks...

Master " BUY GROUPS "......Please Post All Buy Groups HERE !

Thought I would try this one more time with a new thread.

It seems we have enough interest to combine resources and start providing each other with some of the cappers that Cork would frequently provide. Hopefully he'll return soon and join us.

I'm specifically interested in Redd and Nover (suggestions welcome), and it would be nice to have a group that could contribute regularly on the non package releases like Budin or Valentino.

Buying these picks individually would cost the few contributors much more as a whole.

PM me if interested in putting something together.

Also, in deference to the board moderators, please read the disclaimer here
before fully committing. I have contributed to groups in the past without issue.
